A kind-hearted Worcester man has donated 30 body warmers to a day centre that supports homeless people in the city centre.
Mark Edwards visited Maggs Day Centre to handover the items of clothing ahead of launching his upcoming eco book.
Maggs has been operating since 1985 - supporting homeless and socially isolated people across the county.
Mr Edwards, who was concerned that the cold weather would impact the mental health of those getting help at the centre, said his donation was about “empowerment”.
“I feel Maggs are exceptional in terms of staff and the work that they do in the local area,” he explained.
“I bought the clothes in as I felt in this cold weather they could have better use from them than me.
“Keeping warm affects our health and improves our well-being.
"Keeping your body warm instead of the whole room keeps you comfortable and lowers on heating bills.
“Maggs has really made a difference in improving others’ lives – and at times like this our community needs to help those in need.”
He continued: “Maggs work with the most marginalized groups in society, many unable to fulfil the most basic of needs and face significant barriers to integrating back into society.
“Alongside addressing basic needs, staff signpost their service users to other relevant agencies, such as hostels, drug and alcohol support services and housing providers.
“They have a small army of brilliant, dedicated, irreplaceable volunteers, that specialise in providing a myriad of services to those they support.”
Maggs has two day centres, one on Deansway in Worcester (open Monday-Friday) and the other on Newtown Road in Malvern (open Tuesday and Friday).
