WE went to the top of one of the best vantage points in Worcester where you can see across the city.

Developers behind the Sherriff's Gate held a topping-off ceremony today (Tuesday) with those involved in the project and members of the city council invited to visit the site and look out from the top of the development.

The event is a tradition in construction to celebrate reaching the highest point of the construction project.

When complete, the £150 million investment in the revival of the city’s Shrub Hill area will see hundreds of new apartments built including affordable housing.

There will also be a hotel, gym, and multi-storey car park along with food and beverage outlets and multiscreen cinema and ten-pin bowling alley.

The project began on Friday, July 29 and is currently three weeks ahead of schedule.

Guests included Worcester City Council leader Chris Mitchell, Cllr Lynn Denham and Eddie Campion, the director of Elliott Group.

Cllr Mitchell said: "When there is a huge project like this, there is always a number of moving parts which can be difficult to put together.

"I think the team have done an amazing job on the project so far and I think the development will be a real benefit to the city."

The guests were invited to sign a prepared section of wall within the build to mark the momentous day.

This signature wall will be dated and sealed within the building like a time capsule to perhaps be discovered by generations to come who will call the development their home.

There are 120 people now working on the project, with the main contractors of the development, Elliott Group, facilitating local work experience students to get first-hand experience of the project.

Elliott Group has also been engaging with Worcester Community Trust and Whitehead Ross Education to provide training and work experience opportunities.

On both blocks, the precast concrete structure has been completed and the roof on both blocks is now watertight.

The project will soon see the installation of windows, and the fit-out of the apartments is already underway while the fit-out of the communal areas will commence this week.
