AN eager customer waited outside a new chicken shop for four hours after the owners pledged to give the first customers free food.

Hungry customer Owen Prince was first in line after Wingers offered to give away free chicken meals to the first five customers.

The chicken shop opened its doors on Monday (March 6) in Brindley Road at the former Brindley Place convenience shop in Warndon Villages.

Dylan Sunner, age 18 and franchise co-owner, said: "Someone saw a Worcester News article and were waiting from 5.45am this morning because we said the first five customers will get a free meal.

"We were all pretty shocked to be fair, but that is the type of thing that makes us really happy to keep going.

Staff served almost 50 customers in the first half an hour after the shop officially opened.

"We've had a pretty good turnout so far, we've been a little bit stressed, we want everything to be right," added Mr Sunner.

The teenager started Wingers during lockdown with his older brother Amram who is 21.

The entrepreneurial brothers started a business venture as a way to combat their boredom while stuck at home in Birmingham.

Mr Sunner said: "Our parents cater for schools but when they closed during lockdown we started using their kitchen space.

"It wasn't a hobby, it was a business venture.

"It was just crazy. Our food really does set us apart.

"We started it because we were doing nothing, but it led to something we didn't expect."

The Worcester branch marks the fifth store the brothers have opened in two and a half years.

Mr Sunner credited the success of the store to his parents.

He said: "It comes from my family, they are so hardworking."

Store owner Major Sandhar, age 20, said: "The footfall in Worcester has been really good so far. Worcester seems like a great area and it's going well so far.

"A lot of our marketing comes from Instagram and the brand looks great on there."

The colour scheme of the store is red and white with neon bright signs on the walls.

For the opening, there were also white and red balloons dotted around the venue.

The new site has also brought 12 new jobs to the area.
