AN injured woman had to be rescued by firefighters after a car was left on its side following a crash on the M5 motorway.
The woman was then taken to the hospital for treatment while West Mercia Police closed off the M5 southbound between junction 4 (Birmingham/Bromsgrove) and junction 5 (Droitwich).
Fire crews from Droitwich, Bromsgrove and Worcester had to rescue her from the car at 12.21am this morning (Monday).
West Mercia Police urged people to avoid the area.
A spokesperson for Herefordshire and Worcestershire Fire and Rescue Service said: "At 12.21am, a road traffic collision involving one car on its side, persons trapped, M5 South between junctions 5 and 6.
"One female extricated from the car by fire crews and taken to hospital by Ambulance - incident left with Police"
M5 southbound has now re-opened.
A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "Following our earlier message, we can now confirm that the southbound M5 has been re-opened between junction 4 and junction 5.
"Thank you for your patience."
