RUBBISH left clogging a brook near new houses under construction will soon be cleared up says a developer.

A concerned resident, who declined to be identified, took photos of the mess in and around Laugherne Brook in Rushwick, near Worcester.

The images show rubbish in the middle of the brook itself which, in parts of its course, is a designated nature reserve.

However, Persimmon Homes, which is working on the 96-home Worcester Gate development, has apologised and says the mess will be cleared up by today (Wednesday).

The resident said: "All the rubbish has gone into the river course. I have spoken to Persimmon but it's hard to get hold of anyone. There's all this plastic sheeting. It's pollution. They have made a mess of Laughern Brook with rubbish from their development.

"I have tried to get hold of them and talk to them about it but nothing seems to be happening."

A spokesperson for Persimmon Homes said: "We have been made aware of rubbish in the Laughern Brook at our Worcester Gate development, and our team will clear the rubbish by the end of the day. We would like to apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused to local residents.

"Our grounds maintenance contractor visits the site on a twice-weekly basis to ensure the upkeep of the site whilst we prepare to hand over the on-site road to Worcestershire County Council and the public open spaces to FirstPort Management Company."
