THERE has been an outpouring of sadness after the announcement that a long-standing farm shop in Worcester will close.

Gwillam's Farm Shop in Ombersley Road in Bevere announced on Friday (February 24) that the shop would be opening for the last time on Saturday, March 11.

A spokesperson for the business said it was with a "heavy heart" that they made the announcement.

They said: "We would like to thank all our customers and our loyal, long-serving staff for a wonderful 33 years and wish them well for the future."

Many loyal customers have said they will be sad to see the store go.

Wendy Francis said: "Well, yes, it is a shame, but if more people shop there instead of supermarkets, we will still be here.

"It was the best job I ever had - loved it - lovely staff.

"Nevile, Mary and Addie will miss it."

Meg Lloyd added: "I am going to miss it."

Gwillam's Farm Shop has been a well-known business in Worcester for the past 33 years.

Mary and Neville Gwillam have worked on the farm since 1963.

Kevin Heywood said: "Good luck with the proceeds.

"It is very well deserved after such great service to us." 

And Carole Webb added: "They have the best beef in the Midlands."

The farm shop's neighbour The Fish Emporium Worcester has thanked the shop for helping it throughout the years.

A spokesperson said: "Some of you may have heard that Gwillams Farm shop is closing for business.

"Unfortunately, this is true, and we want to take this time to wish the Gwillams family and all their staff all the very best for the future I would like to thank Mr & Mrs Gwilliam for allowing me to set up my business, The Fish Emporium next door to the farm shop nearly six years ago now."

The fishmongers said despite its neighbour's closure, it will stay open for business and trading hours have not changed.

The shop is on the Gwillam's farm site.
