THE owners of a prominent farm shop in Worcester have announced with a "heavy heart" its closure. 

Gwillam's Farm Shop in Ombersley Road in Bevere has been a well-known business in Worcest for the past 33 years.

The farm has been worked by Mary and Neville Gwillam since 1963.

A spokesperson said: "It is with a heavy heart we inform you all that Gwillam’s Farm Shop will close its doors at 4pm on Saturday, March 11, 2023, for the final time.

"We would like to thank all our customers and our loyal, long-serving staff for a wonderful 33 years and wish them well for the future."

The farm shop's neighbour The Fish Emporium Worcester, has thanked the shop for helping it throughout the years.

A spokesperson said: "Some of you may have heard that Gwilliams Farm shop is closing for business.

"Unfortunately, this is true, and we want to take this time to wish the Gwilliams family and all their staff all the very best for the future I would like to thank Mr & Mrs Gwilliam for allowing me to set up my business, The Fish Emporium next door to the farm shop nearly six years ago now."

The fishmongers has said despite its neighbour's closure, it will stay open for business and trading hours have not changed.

Last August the farm was hit by a big fire.

Three fire crews from Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene, and roughly four acres of crops were destroyed. 

The burnt crops were valued at around £2,000 to £3,000.

Gwillams Farm Shop, in Bevere, Worcester, is an historic name in the area, and the land on which it stands has been worked by Mary and Neville Gwillam since 1963.

At the time, Adam Gwillam said: "The fire has caused a huge amount of distress to the family.

"But it's not about the money, we've been welcoming people into our farm to educate them more about what we do, and we're trying to help the local community, and then we get news like this."

The shop is on the Gwillam's farm site.

The shop will close for business  on March 11, at 4pm.
