Worcestershire County Cricket Club has paid tribute to the chair of the county cricket society.
Richard Shaw has died aged 76.
A lifelong Worcestershire and West Bromwich Albion supporter, Richard was treasurer of the society between 2014 and 2017 before taking over as chair in December 2018.
Worcestershire Chair, Fanos Hira, said: “On behalf of the entire Club, I extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to the family and friends of Richard.
“He has made considerable contributions to the Club and the broader community for many years, I loved seeing him at our ground, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family and close ones during this difficult time.”
Norton-born Richard enjoyed a lengthy career as a West Mercia Police officer, where he met his wife Christine.
He retired in 1997 as Chief Inspector.
Richard then spent 11 years working as a civilian claims investigator for the force.
In later years he worked as a steward at New Road.
He also served as chair, and a trustee, of the Battle of Worcester Society.
In this role he gave detailed talks on the conflict, as well as the English Civil War.
He joined the Cricket Society in 2011 and was made an honorary Life Member as a thank-you for his services.
