A BURGLAR who broke into a Subway sandwich shop before biting a police officer is now behind bars.
Just 24 hours earlier, Lewis Ilsley, of Coppice Close, Hallow, was spared jail for burglary and theft offences.
Magistrates told the 44-year-old if he committed another offence within 15 months he would go to jail.
Astonishingly he was back offending the following day.
Ilsley - who once stole from a collection for a schoolboy with cancer - smashed his way into Subway in Shrub Hill, Worcester, using a bin and caused more than £750 worth of damage.
Asiefna Adams, prosecuting, said Ilsley opened a till that had no money in it the threw stock around the sandwich shop.
A member of the public saw him crawl out and when police arrived he tried to run off.
Miss Adams said: "The defendant was clearly unsteady on his feet, stumbling over himself.
"Police took him to the floor restraining him.
"The PC felt a sharp pain and saw the defendant's mouth on her left leg."
Miss Adams said there were bite marks on the leg of the officer who went to Worcestershire Royal Hospital for treatment.
In police interview, Ilsley said he was so intoxicated he had no recollection of what happened.
The prosecutor added Ilsely had an "extensive record" of previous offending, including for theft.
Barry Newton, defending, asked for magistrates to give him credit for admitting burglary with intent to steal and assault by beating of an emergency worker - but said Ilsely could have "no complaints" if he was jailed.
Mr Newton said the dad-of-one could be rehabilitated highlighting a gap in his record of 12 years in the early 2000s where he worked up to be a senior manager at a Bristol estate agent.

"He fell back into drug misuse," Mr Newton added.
After delibrations, chairman of the bench Andrew Greenway, announced they had decided to activate the prison sentence.
"The reason is you committed the offences the day after being in court," the chairman said.
"You would have been warned if you committed any further offences you would go to prison."
For the new offences Ilsley was given two months meaning the defendant was in total handed a one-year prison sentence.
Ilsley, who brought a bag to court, looked down as he was led away to the cells by dock officers.

Ilsley made headlines in September 2019 after stealing a collection tin containing £300 of donations to help Oscar Saxelby-Lee, then aged five, receive life-saving treatment.
Ilsley was caught on CCTV at Sophie’s Grill in Lowesmoor, Worcester, as he stole the money while staff were away from the till.
He later contacted Worcester News to publicly apologise for the pain caused.
