AN EXPLICIT word was keyed into a popular Jamaican food trailer parked in the city centre by a "drunk man".

Selasie Clarke, owner of Jamaica Wah Gwaan on Church Street, said his business was 'keyed' with a four-letter swear word by a man who appeared to be drunk.

CCTV footage captured the moment a man who appeared drunk stumbled up to the trailer before keying an expletive into the side of the van.

Mr Clarke said: "I have no idea who the guy is, and I have never met or spoken to him before.

"I have no idea why he would want to do this to my business.

"The man stumbled around looking drunk and came right up to the van and keyed a swear word right into it."

Mr Clarke said he has faced racial abuse in the city previously but is not sure if the vandalism was of a similar nature.

He said: "I do not know if this is a racial thing, but I have been in the UK for the past 21 years, and 11 of those years have been right here in Worcester.

"During that time, the most racial abuse I have received has sadly been here in Worcester."

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said that despite Mr Clarke reporting crime the incident has now been closed.

However, it will be reopened if "further investigative opportunities become available".

They said: "On January 4, we received a report of criminal damage caused to a food trailer in Church Street in Worcester.

"The crime was investigated as far as reasonably possible, but no suspect was identified.

"The case has been closed pending further investigative opportunities becoming available."

It is not the first time Mr Clarke has faced issues.

In 2017, Neil Hotchkiss launched a tirade of racial abuse aimed at Mr Clarke and a group of his friends who were stood outside the trailer.

At the time, the incident was filmed and posted on Facebook.

Mr Clarke said at the time the man was saying things such as "your kind are not welcome here, in this country".

The business serves a wide variety of traditional Jamaican cuisine such as curry goat, patties, jerk chicken, ackee and salt fish and oxtail.
