A SUSHI counter at a Worcester supermarket enclosed by a mysterious white room is getting a big makeover behind the scenes, we can reveal.

The sushi counter at Waitrose in London Road, Worcester is now completely boxed in by a white screen with a door for workmen.

The temporary walls have signs which say 'warning, construction site' and 'keep out'.

However, we can reveal that nothing fishy is going on - it is all part of an exciting new rebrand and refit to improve the experience for customers at the store following successes elsewhere at other Waitrose stores.

The white walls have kept prying eyes from satisfying their curiosity so far but all will be revealed to customers this Friday when it is hoped they will be able to sample the new look sushi counter for themselves.

Nat Goodwin, a manager at Waitrose Worcester said: "Sushi Daily is one of the many reasons that our customers come to Waitrose, and we're looking forward to the refreshed concession reopening on Friday.

"Whether it's freshly made sushi, or free coffee - on offer as part of our myWaitrose loyalty scheme - we're delighted to have reintroduced great perks for customers.

"Elsewhere, we've also just launched our biggest ever investment in prices - with over 300 prices lowered as a result, so it's good news all round."

Sushi Daily is an independent concession.

The refresh is led by their team and follows similar moves in Chester and Rushden.

The refit started on Sunday, February 12 and will be complete by this Friday. A spokesperson for Waitrose said: "The move will update the sushi preparation area, as well as the general merchandising sections including shelving, giving the kiosk a new, fresher look.

"Customers can still eat in our seating area (unaffected by the refurb) - which is available for all customers, including those eating sushi or enjoying a free hot drink.

"Waitrose reintroduced its free hot drink offer to members of myWaitrose loyalty scheme in October 2022, after the popular perk was paused during the pandemic.

"Waitrose has also just announced its biggest ever investment in prices - pledging £100m to help cut costs on customer favourites. The first wave of reductions sees over 300 products cut in price, with more to come in the year ahead."
