A GREEN Party campaigner is "delighted" with the installation of new cycle parking near Worcester City Centre.

Hannah Cooper, of Worcester, started a petition in June 2019 asking for cycle parking at the Worcester City Art Gallery and Museum, on The Tything.

It is hoped the cycle parking will give commuters sustainable transport choices and help ease the city’s traffic congestion.

Hannah Cooper said: “I’m delighted that the cycle parking has been installed at one of my favourite Worcester buildings. This will be a huge help to museum-goers during the cost of living crisis.

"Families have told me that they have not come to the gallery as there was nowhere to lock a bike - so the cycle parking could actually provide a boost to the local economy and increase visitor numbers.’

The petition cited that Worcester City Council and Worcestershire County Council have declared climate emergencies and mentioned that there is evidence that people are more likely to cycle to their destination if convenient cycle parking is available.

Alex Daw, owner of Little Al’s Café in the art gallery, said: “Being able to encourage people to travel more sustainably and to come and visit the museum without driving is really good and with the cycle parking right outside it will hopefully encourage people to come and visit our café.”
