Matthew Barnes, defending Rice, told the court there was a joint application with Laura Cotton, defending Thomas, to adjourn for pre-sentence reports for the pair.
His Honour Judge Jonathan Salmon said he would adjourn for their reports but stressed it would be "no promise" as to the punishment the pair will eventually receive.
The judge told Thomas and Rice, both of Freer Road, Aston, Birmingham, to return to the court on March 20 for sentencing.
