A MAN was told he could go free from court after his assault trial collapsed.
Shamas Iqbal, of Williamson Road, Worcester, appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court for his trial on Monday, (February 6).
The 30-year-old had faced one charge of assaulting a person thereby occasioning them actual bodily harm.
The prosecution had alleged the assault took place in Worcester on May 13 last year.
But at the start of the case prosecutor Jim Mason said two witnesses scheduled to appear for them in the trial had not attended court.
The prosecutor asked for an adjournment but the 30-year-old's defence solicitor, Jason Patel, said they opposed the application telling magistrates "we are trial ready".

Magistrates left the room and returning chairman of the bench, Elaine Bell, announced they had decided not to grant an adjournment.
Mr Mason then said: "There is no alternative, the crown offer no evidence" before the chairman dismissed the case.
"You are free to go," the chairman told Mr Iqbal.
