A POPULAR zero waste shop in Worcester is moving into a former vegan cafe and bakery in Worcester city centre.

Pack It In - Zero Waste Living is moving to Number 2 at The Cornmarket, from their current store in The Gallery on The Shambles.

The building was previously occupied by Be The Change's Bake A Difference bakery, which closed in 2022.

Phillipa Gilfillan, owner of Pack It In, said she is hoping to open by the end of the month and that the new move will allow the business and its community to grow.

She said: "We are so excited about the move and we are hoping to be open by the end of the month.

"We have been looking to find a new location for a while now where we can explore new opportunities such as opening on Sundays and hosting events.

"A lot of our customers over the last four and a half years since we opened would often say it is a shame we are so tucked away.

"This new location is so much more visible and will hopefully allow the business and our wonderful community to grow."

A statementfrom the business said: "Massive news, we are moving. Yes we are moving to No 2 at The Cornmarket.

"This is an exciting move with lots planned."

Mrs Gilfillan said the reaction to the news has been incredible.

She said: "We have such a strong customer base and the reaction from everyone online to our news has been just incredible."

Some of the proposed changes that the move will bring to the business include:

  • Developed stock lines
  • Installing a fridge and freezer
  • Creating an event space
  • Opening on Sundays and one late night a week
  • Act as a collection point for organic vegetable boxes
  • Stock more local products
  • Possibly setting up a community pantry

The owner has also asked their customers for suggestions on what they would like to see at the new store.

Mrs Gilfillan previously taught at Northwick Manor Primary School in Worcester for 22 years, and opened the business in 2018.

The shop sells a wide range of food items, toiletries, detergents and lifestyle items, and allows customers to bring in bags and containers to fill with various items rather than buying pre-packaged goods.

The shop also has an online website and a home delivery service which will be continuing.
