TEACHERS at city schools are set to strike - with some settings already making plans to close or teach children remotely.

Several schools across Worcester have announced their plans as teachers who are members of National Education Union (NEU) will take part in industrial action on Wednesday (February 1).

Teachers do not need to tell their employers they will strike and will not be able to set cover work for their classes ahead of the action.

However, guidance from the Department for Education suggests agency staff and volunteers could be used to cover classes on strike days, with schools expected to remain open where possible.

So far, several Worcester schools have let parents know their intentions for Wednesyda.

It is being dubbed 'Walkout Wednesday' as - along with teachers - train drivers, university staff, civil service staff and security guards will all strike
