"Unwanted" and "unloved" with "the life being taken out of it" is how a Claines councillor has described the current state of a once popular pub.

Cllr Mel Allcott is appealing for someone to take over The Raven on Droitwich Road as she fears it is falling into further disrepair.

The pub and restaurant closed in 2019, and the building has remained empty since.

Cllr Allcott said: "Every day I go past, I see overgrown trees and bushes growing up.

"I fear it could turn into the Harvester with vandalism.

"It looks more than run-down, it looks unwanted, unloved, with weeds growing at the front.

"It looks like an empty shell like the life has been taken out of it.

"It needs someone soon before it gets too run down."

Worcester News:

Cllr Allcott said she remembered going into The Raven in her early 20s for drinks with friends and, as time progressed, going there on a Sunday with her family.

"It used to be always busy and popular.

"You could go and have a nice carvery, get nice and warm and be a generally inviting place to be.

"Then time went on, owners changed and since it has been closed."

Since it has been closed, Cllr Allcott said the area had gained more popularity with increased importance on football, hockey, new schools and additional housing estates being built.

She added with the old Harvester, also on Droitwich Road, closed there is more of a need for a community eatery.

An application was initially put forward by the Stonegate Pub Company, which hoped to convert the former carvery’s ‘play barn’ into seven new rooms.

A covered pergola and a new patio and decking with outdoor seating and lighting were also proposed under those plans.

But they were soon withdrawn.

Cllr Allcott added: "There is not much like this in the area, and its a real shame.

"I want to try and bring it back."

When asked what in particular she would like to replace the building she said anything like a community or independent pub would be great, or even a chain.
