A travel warning has been issued to anyone who has a holiday coming up as Border Force staff are set to walkout over pay and conditions.
Both the Home Office and Border Force have warned holidaymakers they could face travel chaos ahead of the planned strikes.
Strikes will take place on February 1 through to February 2 as the Public and Commercial Service (PCS) take part in “the largest civil service strike for years.”
The union said: “It signals a significant escalation of industrial action after a month of strikes over pay, pensions, redundancy terms and job security.”
In a warning ahead of the walkout, the government said: “Military personnel, civil servants and volunteers from across government are being trained to support Border Force at airports and ports across the UK in the event of potential strike action.
“Border Force are ready to deploy resource to meet critical demand and support the flow of travellers and goods through the border, however those entering the UK should be prepared for potential disruption.”
A Home Office spokesman added: “Border Force has developed robust contingency plans which prioritise keeping our citizens safe and our borders secure.
“Non-striking Border Force staff, with the full range of appropriate powers, are continuing to complete their vital roles and we have spread our resources flexibly to ensure there is sufficient cover to fulfil our key priorities.
“Military personnel, civil servants and volunteers are supporting a range of services and all deployed contingency staff are sufficiently trained for the activities they are required to undertake.”
