"DANGEROUS" overnight lorry parking has been labelled an 'accident waiting to happen' by a resident and a councillor.

Ollie Tippin, resident of the Woodland Edge development, off Williamson Road, Ronkswood, has claimed the lorries parking overnight is "an accident waiting to happen".

Earlier this week and in November, Haslam Transport Ltd cement mixers were parked along the side of the road.

Haslam Transport was contacted for a response but has not provided a comment.

Mr Tippin said: "This has been happening since before Christmas.

"We are seeing these cement mixer lorries park on the road four or five times a week.

"Drivers are forced to break and take extra precaution when trying to turn as they cannot see around the lorries at all.

"It feels like an accident waiting to happen. I do not understand why drivers cannot park at designated lorry parks where there are more adequate facilities."

Mr Tippin's comments were echoed by Cllr Basharat Ali, Worcester city councillor for Nunnery ward, who called the parking "dangerous".

Cllr Ali said: "I agree that something needs to be done about the overnight parking, it is dangerous and is certainly an accident waiting to happen.

"This is a county council issue which I am aware has been raised by Mr Tippin, so I am hoping something gets solved soon.

"It is a risk to the safety of drivers and residents in the area."

Cllr Mike Rouse, the cabinet member for highways and transport, said: “We always encourage our residents to raise highways issues with their local county councillor, or via our online reporting system.

"This allows us to investigate the situation alongside our local council and police colleagues where appropriate and explore the options available to us.

"When reporting a highway issue to the County Council, residents are encouraged to submit supporting evidence alongside their initial report of the issue.

"Worcestershire County Council has powers to prohibit overnight lorry parking on the public highway, but in doing so, we have to follow the Traffic Regulation Order process and evidence that the parking is a persistent issue.

"Any concerns about parking that is considered dangerous should be reported to the Police.”
