Pubs were forced to shut, roads and car parks closed and a desperate search for the owner of a car slowly being submerged in water as floods continued to plague Worcester.

A section Hylton Road was shut off to motorists after the floodgate outside the University of Worcester Arena closed.

It caused long delays in the west of the city with Worcestershire Highways asking people to instead use Carrington Bridge.

The decision to put up the riverside road's flood gates came as the River Severn was expected to peak in Worcester tonight (Sunday) at between 5.4m and 5.7m.

By 1pm, the river had reached a height of 5.38m, well above the top of the normal range - 3.35m.

Just across the river from the floodgate, on Grandstand Road by Sabrina Bridge, a car was slowly being submerged in the rising water.

Worcestershire County Council's highways team made a last-ditch bid to find who owned the blue Renault Clio before it was consumed any further by the flood waters.

"If this is your vehicle parked in Grandstand Road, Worcester, you're running out of time to move it," read a tweet from the council.

"Police are trying to contact the registered keeper."

The main message from Worcester BID and the council was that the city remained open for business.

However, a few pubs felt the full force of the flooding.

Water could be seen flowing out of the Severn View Hotel, with a pool beginning to form on Newport Street.

Nearby restaurant Yeliz Blossom Room Turkish Grill, which opened last month in The Old Rectifying House, was also forced to remain closed on Sunday.

It said the closure was due to "recent rain volume and flooding" adding: "We look forward to getting back open as soon as possible."

Out in Grimley, Friday the thirteenth certainly lived up to its name for The Camp House Inn.

When a Worcester News reporter visited on Thursday, staff were busy ferrying customers across by boat to make sure business continued as normal.

Just 24 hours later the pub was forced to close after water made its way inside the building.

"Thanks to those who offered us a hand this morning, very much appreciated," read a post on the bar's Facebook page.

"Happy Friday 13th!"

Elsewhere in Worcester, several parks were forced to close due to flooding, namely Pitchcroft, Croft Road, Cattlemarket, Tybridge Street and Newport Street.

Due to some of the road closures put in place, most notably a section of Hytlon Road, there were heavy delays in the city, around 15 minutes.

As such the county council has advised people to use Carrington Bridge to avoid delays.
