DRIVERS are being told to avoid parking their vehicles in certain city car parks due to rising river levels.

Worcester City Council is urging drivers to avoid Pitchcroft, Croft Road, Newport Street, Tybridge Street, and Cattlemarket as the river levels are expected to rise over the next few days.

Drivers can still use the following car parks in Worcester

  • St Martins Gate Car Park
  •  Tallow Hill Car Park
  •  Silver Street
  •  Clare Street Car Park
  •  College Precincts
  • Commandery Road Car Park
  •  Copenhagen Street Car Park
  • Cornmarket Car Park
  •  King Street Car Park
  •  Moors Car Park
  •  Providence Street Car Park
  • Severn Street
  • Silver Street.

A spokesperson from the council said: "We have put signs out at Pitchcroft, Croft Road, Newport Street, and Cattlemarket car parks, advising customers to park in other locations".

River Severn burst its banks at South Parade and the river levels have remained high ever since Saturday (January 7).

Flood warnings for the River Severn at Court Meadow, Kempsey and Callow End remain in place this morning (January 11). 

At 1pm, the river level at Diglis was at 3.95m - it had risen from 11am when it reached 3.92m.

This is above the typical level.

In Barbourne, the river level was also above its typical level reaching 4.29m and is also higher than the 4.08m recorded 24 hours earlier.
