A RETAIL giant unexpectedly closed on Sunday due to a burglary in the early hours of the morning.

Argos on Elgar Retail Park in Blackpole, closed to secure the premises after the burglary between midnight and 1am.

Police said a man had been arrested on suspicion of burglary and  was currently in custody while inquiries continue.

Police cars, a sniffer dog and a helicopter were spotted in Astwood Road at around 2am.

Police would not say if the two incidents were linked.

The store is expected to re-open on Monday.

Many customers, who are unaware of the temporary closure, have been left frustrated and disappointed. 

At the store, signs informing customers about what has happened have been put up and the shutters are partially down.

There are two signs on the door. The first one reads: "This store will be closed for the rest of today (Sunday) and we hope to be back up and trading tomorrow.

"(Due to circumstances beyond our control!) 

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused."

The second sign reads: "Due to an incident, this store is temporarily closed.
