WORK to transform a former Pound Shop into a supermarket in the city centre has started.
A Tesco Express is set to open on High Street after the Pound Shop closed in October 2022 after a year of opening.
Onlookers may notice that the building has been covered in order for the construction to take place.
The construction comes after a planning application was submitted on behalf of Tesco Express to Worcester City Council asking for permission to install three fascia signs, a projecting sign, frosting, and vinyl.
The application was submitted on Friday, September, 30 2022 with a consultation period set to take place from Thursday (October 20) until Wednesday, November, 2 2022.

Closure of the Pound Shop

The Pound Shop first opened in Worcester in October 2021 and saw queues of people lining up to be the first through the doors.
The unit was previously empty for almost three years after music chain HMV closed in 2019.
HMV made the decision to close in Worcester after its new owner said it was no longer a viable business option.
Another Tesco Express store in the city centre is currently based on Foregate Street, next to the train station.
However, an opening date for when the new Tesco Express has not been given.
