NATIONAL Highways has issued a warning to drivers over oncoming wet weather conditions across the West Midlands.

The National Highways West Midlands account issued the warning on social media, advising drivers to be careful on the roads.

The tweet said:" It’s set to be pretty wet over the next week so let's be careful out there.

"Make sure you follow our advice and guidance to stay safe whilst travelling and enjoy the festive period."

According to the Met Office, Worcestershire will see rain all across the weekend before getting brighter on Monday, January 2.

National Highways advise drivers to plan journeys in advance, particularly when travelling on unfamiliar routes.

Checking the availability of service areas along your route, making sure you know how to operate your headlights and fog lights and checking your vehicle before driving is all recommended.

Packing a seasonal kit to deal with uncertain weather conditions and checking the weather forecast is also advised.

When you’re on the road, if you are required to use your wipers, it’s time to slow down, and use dipped headlights if visibility is seriously reduced.

The roads will be more slippery than usual, so National Highways advise to give yourself more time to react and increase the gap between you and the vehicle in front to at least four seconds.

If your vehicle has a problem, or you get into trouble on a motorway, stay calm and try to exit at the next junction or motorway service area.
