A REPAIR and alterations shop in the city centre has a new owner in the form of a longstanding employee.

Zip Yard Worcester on Pump Street has been a part of the high street for over seven years.

The current owners, Paul and Dee Meredith originally opened up in The Shambles and then moved to Pump Street, opposite Specsavers after lockdown.

And now, Lucy Ackehurst, who has been working at the store for three years, will be taking over the store from January, 4 2023.

After owning her own tailoring business for five years she said her new store is a step in the right direction.

However, the 36-year-old said she wants to keep the store the same and offer the same services but she is hoping to expand and attract even more customers.

Especially with her background in tailoring clothes, she said she is excited to take on the new role.

She said: "I’m delighted to be able to share that I’ve officially become the owner of The Zip Yard Worcester.

"Having worked here for three years, I’ve seen first-hand the value we bring to the Worcester community and the potential we have to serve even more people in the area.

As the pressures of the cost of living crisis continue, she said the store will attract 'conscious consumers'.

"Roughly 700 people use our alterations and repair services each month, but as the cost of living rises and conscious consumers take more interest in lessening their impact on the planet, The Zip Yard is perfectly placed to help.

"Not only are we able to prolong the life of much-loved clothing through tailoring, restyling, and repairs.

"I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen a piece of clothing transformed by our seamstresses, and seeing the incredible reaction from our customers never gets tiresome."
