A WORCESTER woman has been found guilty of being drunk and disorderly after magistrates heard she prevented a man from getting medical treatment.

Rowena Thorneycroft, of Barbourne Road, Worcester, took her case to a trial but Worcester magistrates found the 55-year-old guilty.

During her trial at Worcester Magistrates Court on Monday, (December 19), prosecutor Andrew Mitchinson said police were called to Hylton Road to a report of an alleged assault.

Paramedics were at the scene providing treatment to Carl Bainbridge, who was with Thorneycroft by the riverside.

The prosecutor said Thorneycroft was slumped on a bench and officers saw her grab Mr Bainbridge by his neck while he was receiving treatment from the paramedics.

While PC Amy Jones was giving evidence, her body camera footage was shown to the court of the incident which took place on September 22 this year.

PC Jones said: "While receiving treatment she pulled Mr Bainbridge away from paramedics.

"The defendant was arrested."

In the witness box, Thorneycroft said: "I was kicked in the mouth, police weren't listening to me.

"I can't remember how much I drank that day, I wouldn't say I was drunk. "

Sarj Lalli, defending, told magistrates police were initially called to reports it had been Thorneycroft who had been the one who had been assaulted and injured.

Mr Lalli said Thorneycroft had been injured and argued there was "reasonable doubt" to acquit the defendant.

But after more than 20 minutes of deliberations Jayne Burton, chairman of the magistrates bench, said: "We do find you guilty of this offence.

"You grabbed him, that is disorderly behaviour.

"I would not want to walk past that going on, children were present."

Thorneycroft was told she would be sentenced on January 27. She was given unconditional bail.

  • As previously reported Rowena Thorneycroft also denies assaulting an emergency worker, a police officer.

The assault is alleged to have been on PC Edward Bishop, the prosecution saying it took place on October 3 this year.

Thorneycroft faces the assault trial on January 6 next year.
