One of the city’s most iconic buildings will play host to a calendar of festive fun.

There is plenty happening at Worcester Cathedral over the coming weeks, as residents look to get in the Christmas spirit.

The holiday season began earlier this month, with the launch of the Christmas Tree Festival.

An avenue of creatively designed trees has lined the medieval cloister as part of the event which runs until Sunday, January 8.

This weekend will see the hallowed halls brought to life with the sound of music.

The cathedral’s Christmas concert takes place on Saturday, December 17, with an evening of choir music, featuring everyone’s favourite tunes.

Also starting on Saturday is ‘What the Dickens?’ – an exhibition about Victorian inventions.

Visitors will be able to try their hand at morse code, watch a model steam train and create Christmas cards.

Held at the Undercroft Learning Centre from 10am to 4pm on December 17, 19, 20, 21 and 22, tickets cost £2.

Carol services

For many, the highlight of the Christmas calendar is the carol services.

The first such service is this Sunday, at 4pm, by the Cathedral Voluntary Choir.

On Tuesday 20 it will be the Blue Light Carol Service by the Cathedral Chamber Choir.

The Worcester News will even be hosting our own service, on December 21, with help from the Cathedral Choir, who take to the stage on December 22 and 23 also.

On Christmas Eve there will be two crib services, at 1pm and 3pm, which tell the story of Christmas featuring real animals.

At 5.30pm there will be an evening service featuring the Youth Choir before the Midnight Eucharist from 11.30pm.

And on Christmas Day itself there will be eucharist at 10.30am followed by Evensong at 4pm.
