A FOOTPATH froze this morning after water poured out of a leak in Sidbury.

Water could be seen gushing out of gaps between the paving slabs in Sidbury, Worcester, near the car park and opposite the junction with City Walls Road on Monday evening.

However, because of the cold spell, the water from the burst main froze this morning.

Signs have been put up by Worcestershire County Council to warn people of ice following the leak, which is the responsibility of Severn Trent.

A county council spokesperson said: "We're still awaiting news of their plans to repair the footway leak in Sidbury, Worcester - the area has been signed to warn of ice; please take care in this location."

This morning a resident shared a photo which showed the water had frozen, creating a risk for pedestrians.

A Severn Trent spokesperson said yesterday: “We’ve been notified of a water leak in Sidbury and we’re scheduling a team to investigate and make the repair, which might happen overnight under a road closure.

"Until we can investigate the issue and identify a cause we aren’t able to say how long a repair might take at this time. We’re sorry to anybody who may be inconvenienced by this issue.”

A Severn Trent spokesperson said: “We are aware of a burst under the pavement on Sidbury, Worcester and have scheduled a team to make a repair.

"As this is a busy location, we will be making this repair overnight to limit any disruption to members of the public.

“In the meantime, as the temperature is below freezing, we will be gritting the area around the burst. We would like to apologise to anyone for any inconvenience while we make this repair.”
