AN angry Santa refuses to pay a parking ticket for his 'sleigh' and is prepared to go to court with council 'Scrooges'.

Mick Worrall, known as 'Chicken Mick', said he was 'disappointed' he was issued with the ticket in the first place after he parked his trike (which pulls his sleigh) in Worcester city centre.

The 75-year-old Father Christmas was handing out sweets and teddies and collecting for New Hope Worcester Children's Charity.

The organisation works with families who have children with disabilities and complex health care needs. He says he was approached by the traffic warden and 'Santa' was witnessed shouting by onlookers.

However, Mr Worrall insisted he was not driving the decorated trike around the streets - he merely 'crawled along' at under 2mph to his parking spot before handing out festive gifts.

As previously reported, Santa was met with a traffic warden outside Worcester Guildhall in the High Street.

We have now spoken to Mr Worrall of Cotheridge, near Bromyard, who says he was the Santa in question and refused to accept the ticket, telling the official 'to send it to the North Pole'.

He has now expressed the hope that Worcester City Council scrap the ticket and has vowed to return to the city centre on December 21, 22 and 23.

"I won't let the children down. I get pleasure from putting smiles on the faces of the children," he said.

Mr Worrall said he had been supporting charities and good causes for the last 20 years, including Acorns, the Midlands Air Ambulance and St Paul's Hostel.

Nr Worrall added: "I'm a bit disappointed - but it's not going to stop me. I've been doing it for years. I refused to take the ticket. I told the warden 'send it to me in the post to my address'. He said 'where's that?' I said 'the North Pole'.

"I will go to court dressed as Father Christmas if I have to."

His friend, Stuart Hackett, who was dressed as a Christmas tree will support him if it goes to court, he said.

He added: "There's got to be rules - but it's Christmas time! They have got to expect someone to come along as Father Christmas to get people into the festive spirit. I would like them to scrap the ticket."

A Worcester City Council spokesperson said they could not comment on individual cases.
