The ever popular Victorian Christmas Fayre makes its welcome return on Thursday, (December 1).

Here's what you need to know: 

 

What to see

 

There will be 20 decorated wooden chalets in the High Street and stalls in New Street, Friar Street, Pump Street, the Cornmarket and Cathedral Square.

New this year are pop-up stalls in The Shambles.

The event will feature Victorian dress, local producers and businesses, and visitors can also enjoy the traditional fairground rides.

Also look out for stilt walkers throughout the day.

Times

 

The fayre, celebrating its 30th anniversary, is not officially opened until the early evening - but the fayre still gets underway at midday. 

Meanwhile performers will be taking to two stages.

 

On the Cathedral Square Stage will be:

 

12pm - 12.30pm King's St Alban's

12.30pm - 1pm Red Hill C of E Primary School

2.15pm - 3pm Tudor Grange School Choir

3.15pm - 4pm Hollymount Primary School

6pm - 6.45 Lyppard Grange Primary School

7pm - 8pm The Salvation Army and Griff Collins. 

 

On the Bell Square stage there will be:

 

12.30pm - 1pm St Barnabas Primary School

1.15pm - 2.15pm Mandy Harding Saxaphone (Huntingdon Hall Stage)

2.15pm - 3.15pm St Egwins Middle School Choir

7.30pm - 8.30pm Elgar School of Music Folk Ensemble

 

Opening carol service and procession

 

Worcester Cathedral will host a community carol service at 4.45pm, followed at 5pm by the procession from the Cathedral to the Cornmarket -where the mayor will officially declare the Fayre to be open.

Carols will be sung by the Worcester Cathedral Voluntary Choir accompanied by the Salvation Army, and there will be a short Bible reading and prayer.

The opening ceremony will finish shortly after 6pm.

 

Road closures, (7am until 11pm).

 

There will be a number of road closures linked to the fayre. The roads closed are:

 

Angel Place, Bank Street, Broad Street, Carden Street (bay suspension only), Charles Street, Church Street, Cornmarket, Friar Street, High Street (Pump Street to Elgar Statue), High Street (Pump Street to the Cross), Mealcheapen Street, New Street, Pump Street, New Street, Pump Street (The Shambles to High Street), The Shambles, Union Street.

 

* Exceptions Angel Place, Broad Street (9am to 11pm)
