DRIVERS may start shopping around for more competitive fuel prices after the Royal Automobile Club (RAC) said petrol prices in supermarkets are 'far higher than they should be.'
Simon Williams, who is a spokesperson for RAC fuel, said: "With many people struggling to put fuel in their cars it’s very sad to see the biggest fuel retailers taking advantage of their customers by charging far higher prices than they should be.
"This is unfortunately a perfect example of prices falling like a feather, the opposite of them rocketing up as soon as the wholesale price rises significantly.
“We urge the supermarkets to do the right thing by their customers and cut prices by at least 5p a litre immediately."

Mr Williams urged shoppers to look around for the cheapest fuel prices rather than assuming it will be at the supermarket.
The Worcester News looked at the petrol prices of a wide range of garages across Worcester to see which places had the most competitive prices.
According to Petrol Prices.com, the cheapest place to get unleaded petrol is Gulf Fuel on Bransford Road with fuel prices at 159.7p whereas diesel is sold at 184.7p.
However, Tesco on Mill Wood Drive and Sainsbury's on Blackpole Road are two supermarket giants in Worcester who are selling fuel at competitive prices.
Both supermarkets are selling unleaded for 159.9p and diesel at 186.9p.

Today (Friday, November 25) the most expensive place to get petrol in Worcester is BP Malvern Road in Lower Wick.
The petrol station is selling unleaded for 162.9p whereas diesel is 189.9p.
