A talented Worcestershire dancer was chosen out of 3,000 children to play a once-in-a-lifetime role in Netflix’s new take on Roald Dahl's Matilda.

Arlo travelled to London in 2020 to audition for the “mass ensemble role” in the new movie starring Emma Thompson.

The talented teen began dancing at Worcester’s Beat Breakerz school of dance in 2015, aged seven.

Arlo went through three rounds of dancing and singing auditions – and to his surprise he was selected as one of 24 children in Matilda’s class.

Since then, Arlo has gone on to rehearse and film from February to August 2021 - five days a week.

Cast members even spent time in a hotel for five weeks to ensure Covid-19 did not stop filming.

Arlo worked alongside an incredible cast including Emma Thompson, Lashana Lynch and his good friend Alisha Weir.

“This was a life changing experience that gave an incredible insight into the industry and future possibilities,” said Amie Harris, who set up Beat Breakerz in 2013.

“We have no doubt that the rigour, honesty and dedication Amie Harris has offered Arlo is one of the main reasons Arlo secured such an incredible role.

“The other is that Arlo listened, was brave - stepping outside his comfort zone - to enter a highly competitive process and he remained humble and kind throughout.

“We are forever grateful for this opportunity and the years of dedicated teaching and learning at Beat Breakerz that led to this life changing opportunity.

“Arlo is absolute proof of that alongside many of the incredibly talented dancers he works alongside.”

Beat Breakerz claimed the top prize at the street dance ‘BDO (British Dance Organisation) World Championships 2022’ held earlier this year.
