High Hopes Dog Rescue will run out of food amid cost of living crisis

The team from High Hopes Dog Rescue, who find dogs foster homes across the county, said they are quickly running out of dog food. 

On Facebook, volunteers pleaded for help in their emergency food appeal and said "Help!! Our food is almost gone." 

D'arcy Pearce, said: "We just have a lot of dogs at the moment because of the cost of living crisis, people just cannot afford their dogs.

"A lot of people are working more hours and can't look after their dogs during the day. 

"We are still trying to help and take in as many dogs as we can.

"A lot of our dogs come from abroad and some are in a horrendous state. 

"We need food donations because we don't make any money. 

"And we are just desperate for dog food at the moment."

The 27-year-old, who has fostered around 300 dogs over the past three years, said: "We still have to buy food, but that means payment for other things like the vets, travel and kennels become delayed.

"We rely hugely on donations and we try to ask for things rather than money. 

"People can choose what they buy the dog and it makes it more personal. 

"It is a difficult time at the moment, especially with Christmas coming up. 

"I think this year more dogs will be returned to the shelter this Christmas. 

"Brands sometimes also donate food, but when that runs out, other rescue shelters donate food.

"We all have the same mission after all." 

Since posting an appeal on Facebook on Thursday (November 23) Miss Pearce said the rescue received a bag of food the following day. 

She said: "This morning, a couple of bags of food arrived but that has just evaporated with 40 mouths to feed.

"Hopefully there are a lot of donations and the fundraiser might help, everybody needs money during this time of year. 

"It is stressful and we need to make sure the dogs get the food. 

"Especially if they have come from trauma and having a meal and a safe place is all they have really."
