A Worcestershire restaurant is closing down - and says it is because of rising costs.

The Leaking Well is a pub, hotel and restaurant located on the A449 in Dunhampton, a few miles north of Worcester.

In a Facebook post, the business announced its closure and thanked customers for their support.

“Good evening. It is with a sad heart we have to say goodbye to The Leaking Well,” the statement said.

“We have closed down due to costs. We are grateful to all our loyal and lovely customers over the years and wish you all the best.

“Merry Christmas and hope the New Year brings us some happier time.”

The business said it would open one last time this coming Sunday (November 27) for breakfast and for a lunchtime carvery.

The announcement was met with messages from disappointed customers, including one that called it “absolutely dreadful news”.

One patron said: “Oh what a flipping shame. We have eaten with you many, many times.

“Always fantastic food and friendly service. All the very best to you all.”

Another added: “So sad, the best food around. So happy that the other week we got such a great Sunday meal, really going to miss The Leaking Well.”

It is well known for its carveries and was named as one of the best places for a roast by Worcester News readers in 2019.

The Leaking Well is one of several businesses in Worcestershire to close because of rising costs.

The Meeting Place in Friar Street announced its closure earlier this month.

Owners Edward and Nancy Little Jones have said they can no longer compete with rising costs.

They said: "It’s broken our hearts to have to do this but we’ve been left with little choice I’m afraid."

Aquatics and Reptiles in Swanpool Walk closed at the end of September after 14 years in St John’s.

Owner Clive Longstaff says rising energy bills were to blame.

“We had our electricity bill go up from £883 a month to £2,190 a month in April,” he said.
