THE names of a couple who left a Chinese restaurant without paying have been given to the owners after their picture was shared online.
Staff at Chung Ying Gardens have been inundated with messages naming the pair who left the restaurant in Friar Street without paying the bill.
Giving the pair the benefit of the doubt, manager Tsu Law originally gave the couple over a week to settle the bill.
But the couple did not come forward after they dined at the restaurant on Sunday, November 13.
After posting the CCTV image, names have now been given to the restaurant.
Miss Law said: "My inbox has been flooded with messages of who people thought it was.
"There is one name that has been mentioned a few times and it syncs up with the name the booking was made under.
"But at this time, we are just waiting to hear back from the police to see what they say.
"I don't think the couple will come back and pay for it, but we are hoping for them to do the right thing.
"We have provided them a service and they have left without paying and even though the bill wasn't that high, it is the principle of it.
"The bill was just under £25, they had a couple of drinks and starters, they ordered their main but left before that.
"But it will hopefully act as a deterrent for people who want to do it.
"We want them to come and settle the bill and apologise.
"People in the comments have said 'food tastes better when it's free' but that is sending out the wrong message.
"Everyone is trying to run a business and it is annoying and frustrating and you have people like this who go to places to eat and don't pay.
"We are all out trying to make a living and run a business for people to go out and do something like this.
"I want the couple to do the right and honest thing and settle the bill and come in and say sorry.
"We are not going to have a go at them, we are not aggressive people, we just want to let people know that we are not going to stand for it and it is not right."
