IT WAS A 'testing' climb for a stonemason from Worcester who reached Mount Everest's base Base Camp.
Tom Adams, co-owner of Stonemasons of Worcester, reached the base camp on Monday (November 21) and stopped to take pictures in front of a stunning mountain backdrop.
The experience was a birthday present purchased by his wife and co-owner of the business, Zoe Adams, which had to be delayed due to covid.
Mrs Adams said she was proud and relieved to receive the news that he had made it to base camp.
She said: "It is an amazing achievement and I am so proud of Tom. I am also relieved because it is such a challenging thing to do.
"You never know how your body is going to take to the altitude levels when you are up there, and sadly three people in Tom's group had to be taken back down.
"It feels like he has been gone for a lifetime so I cannot wait to see him."

Mr Adams left earlier this month, on Wednesday, November 9, making this the latest adrenaline-fuelled challenge he has embarked on.
Mrs Adams said: "Tom loves to try these intense challenges and has always been fascinated with people who climb Mount Everest.

"He has previously cycled across Arizona which was another big challenge he wanted to take on.
"I think because he has an army background he enjoys the tests and seeing what he can achieve."

Due to not having any phone signal, Mrs Adams was only aware that Tom reached the base camp once he had arrived back at his accommodation.
Mrs Adams said when her husband returns he has already thought about what he wants to do to celebrate his achievement.
She said:" One of the first things he will want to do is go out for a big steak to celebrate.
"He has been eating mostly carbs whilst climbing so he will certainly be in need of some protein when he gets home."
