SCORES of people including Americans living in Worcester are set to enjoy a Thanksgiving meal at an US-themed smokehouse.

Thanksgiving is not traditionally celebrated in the UK but Hickory's Smokehouse said it had a lot of interest in its celebration on Thursday (November 24).

Hickory's, on Tybridge Street, is famous for serving American-style barbecue food in the city.

Every year, staff welcome diners to enjoy a Thanksgiving meal and call it Turkey Day.

They include Americans living in the city wanting to mark the US national which is modeled on a 1621 harvest feast shared by the English colonists of Plymouth and the Wampanoag people

The smokehouse restaurant will be serving food from its thanksgiving menu until Sunday (November 27).

General manager James Hadley said: "We just want to bring a bit of joy to everyone.

"Thanksgiving is not as big in England. But when people come to visit us, they do think it's quite nice.

"We have done it every year, it is a big part of Hickory's and it is one of our main events.

"We are an American-themed smokehouse and that is why it is great that we can show that part.

"The whole day is about giving thanks," Mr Hadley added.

Diners can enjoy American-themed activities and watch Thanksgiving films and NFL games throughout the weekend.

Although Thanksgiving is not widely celebrated in England, Mr Hardley said Brits are often excited to try food from the Thanksgiving menu which includes treats like pumpkin pie.

"But it ties in nicely with Christmas so our decorations are all up and we have some Christmas displays outside too."

The Smokehouse will also be celebrating a hero from Worcester by giving them a free meal.

This year Paul Harding, who is a Sergeant at Mace for the City of Worcester, will have a free meal at the smokehouse for all the work he has done this year.

Mr Harding, who once welcomed the Queen to Worcester, was chosen as a 'local hero' due to his volunteer work and selfless impact on society.

Diners can expect a menu jam-packed with traditional American-themed food such as smoked turkey breast, smoked pigs in blankets, tater tots, collard greens & fried cauliflower mornay.
