One of the world's best darts players took a break from the action to visit a Worcester steakhouse.

Michael Smith popped into Ounce Bar & Kitchen this week, in the midst of his campaign to be crowned the PDC Grand Slam champion.

The world number four is a close friend of the Tything restaurant's owner, Shane Peckover.

Michael and Shane own a racehorse named HipFlask together as part of a syndicate with fellow darts player Chris Dobey and Premier League footballer Joe Rothwell of AFC Bournemouth.

"The best dart player on the planet came for the best steak on the planet!" said Shane.

"Michael is a really good guy and great company.

"Ounce attracts so many brilliant characters from actors, jockeys and darters to rugby players and footballers."

At Ounce on Thursday night, Michael ordered a medium rare chateaubriand with bonemarrow jus, which Shane says he "thoroughly enjoyed".

The next day, 'Bully Boy' went on to beat Joe Cullen 16-15 in the quarter-finals of the Cazoo Grand Slam.

He also got to visit his new horse for the first time.

This afternoon, Sunday November 20, Michael bested five-time world champion Raymond van Barneveld to earn a place in tonight's final in Wolverhampton.

Thus far in his career, Michael has been unable to win a major PDC title.

He has come runner-up in the World Championships twice as well as finishing second-best in the 2018 Premier League, the 2019 World Matchplay, the 2022 European Championship, the 2022 UK Open, the 2020 Masters, and the 2018 World Series Finals.

Meanwhile, the team at Ounce are looking forward to the opening of their new restaurant, in Bishampton, on December 15.

The restaurant will move into The Dolphin Inn pub, on Main Street, which announced it had closed on Tuesday, September 27 this year.
