A DRUNK man ripped a windscreen wiper off a car after a night out, magistrates heard.

Danny Bushell admitted criminal damage when he appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court on Thursday, (November 10).

Prosecutor Mark Hambling described the case as a "peculiar matter".

He said the 21-year-old was seen on a CCTV in Worcester at 1am on October 13 this year falling into a Renault Master Panle Van.

The prosecutor said Bushell had grabbed the windscreen wiper of the van causing it to fall off.

Mr Hambling said the owner of the vehicle, who did not live locally, has not made a request for compensation to fix the damage.

The prosecutor said: "It must have been a sunny day for them to be able to drive home."

Mr Hambling said Bushell had got three previous convictions for criminal damage, the latest conviction taking place earlier this year.

In that case, Bushell kicked the wing mirrors of a Citroen, a Ford Transit Connect van and a Vauxhall Meriva during a Malvern rampage.

Bushell, of Atyeo Close, Malvern, represented himself and was asked by the court clerk why he did it.

"I have no idea," Bushell said.

"I'm not sure why I did it.

"I can't remember doing it, I can't remember getting arrested.

"I woke up in a police cell.

"I have seen the evidence, it is clearly me on the recording and it is a damaged vehicle."

Bushell said that he recognised his issue was drinking when he was down, and that was when he got into trouble.

Bushell added he was currently working at Morrisons supermarket, but confessed he had told his employer he was absent because he was ill and not because he was in court.

Richard Poppleton, the chairman of the bench, said: "There is an issue you need to address and keep out of trouble.

"You can't keep coming back here."

Bushell was fined £88, and ordered to pay victim surcharge of £35 and costs of £135.

The total, £258, was added to the outstanding amount Bushell alreaady owes the courts, being paid at a rate of £200 per month.
