WORCESTER Wheels is one of 10 charities shortlisted for a cash giveaway.

The Worcester News is giving local charities the chance to take a share of an amazing £128k cash giveaway.

Our parent company’s charitable arm, The Gannett Foundation, is providing £128k in cash to support local charities across the country and we are delighted to have a £16k share to give away in our area.

One of the charities you have nominated for the shortlist is Worcester Wheels.

The charity, based at Checketts Lane, Worcester, aims to always be there for anyone needing transport to medical appointments, hospital appointments or visiting, journeys to day centres, lunch clubs, shopping trips, or going to see relatives and friends.

Steve Drewer, transport manager at Worcester Wheels, said: "This is fantastic news.

"We charge a fee to customers, we would want to charge nothing.

"Every donation we receive goes back into the service and helps keep our prices down, and for us to be able to buy new vehicles.

"It is wonderful people have voted for us."

Dormston Cook, business manager at the charity, has previously described donations as the "lifeblood" of their charity.

Mr Cook said: "Donations help to keep our vehicles on the road and assist so many people in our community.

“As well as the practical means of getting people to appointments, we also alleviate isolation for many.

“People think that isolation happens to those living in the country, but that isn’t the case.

"People rely on us for human interaction because they might not see anyone else for the week.

“We are the ‘real’ internet – connecting people with their interests, retaining their connection with their communities and friends, bringing people together.”

As previously reported the RSPCA Worcester and Mid-Worcestershire branch is also on the shortlist.

To vote, tokens can be taken from the Worcester News and placed into boxes at:
