A Premium Bonds prize of £100,000 is waiting to be claimed in Hereford and Worcester.

Each month in the UK, Premium Bonds holders are entered into a draw that could net them £1 million.

While all of the jackpots have been accounted for, there is still £68 million in prizes dating back to 1957 still waiting to be claimed, with three prizes of £100,000 currently unclaimed.

National Savings and Investments (NS&I), a state-owned savings bank in the UK, has now confirmed that there are 23,363 unclaimed prizes in Hereford and Worcester, with a total prize value of £857,925.

People forgetting to change their contact details is the main reason for prizes going unclaimed, a NS&I spokesperson said.

“Premium Bonds prize winners are notified when they win a prize, but sometimes people move or change their contact details without letting NS&I know – this can lead to unclaimed prizes, particularly if they have opted to receive their prize by cheque,” explained the spokesperson.

“The best way to ensure bondholders receive their prizes is to have them paid directly into their bank account or automatically reinvested into more Premium Bonds.

“Getting prizes paid directly is also quicker and more secure, with more than nine in ten prizes now paid this way rather than by post.”

One of the three unclaimed £100,000 prizes was won by a person in Hereford and Worcester.

The prize was won by a female in 2014 who had a total Premium Bonds holding of £14.

The winning Bond was from a £5 holding was purchased in 1972.

There is also over a dozen prizes of £1,000 waiting to be claimed in Hereford and Worcester.

Meanwhile, the oldest unclaimed prize is £25, won in August 1965.
