A LARGE Christmas tree has been installed in front of a city landmark ahead of an annual charity campaign.

The tree, at St Andrew's Spire, on Deansway, is set to be used for St Richard's Hospice's Lights of Love campaign, which will officially begin next Friday (November 11).

The tree was donated by Leigh Sinton Christmas Trees, and is set to be illuminated against a backdrop of music from The Salvation Army following a service at Worcester Cathedral which begins at 7pm.

Kelly Johns, St Richard’s Hospice fundraising community and events manager, said: “Our Lights of Love tree is very kindly donated by Leigh Sinton Christmas Trees.

"By being gifted a beautiful tree, the hospice can raise even more funds for the free care that we provide to around 3,100 patients and their loved ones each year.

"We’re so very grateful to everyone at Leigh Sinton Christmas Trees for thinking of us each festive season.”

The Lights of Love campaign, sponsored by Fisher German, involves two Worcester Cathedral services at 2.30pm and 7pm on Friday, 11th November.

A choir from Kings Hawford will sing during the afternoon service and the RGS Senior School Choir will feature in the evening event.

St Richard’s has held Lights of Love services in Worcestershire for twenty years, except for in 2020 when they were held virtually due to the pandemic.

Dedicated names will be displayed around St Andrew’s Spire and in a Book of Remembrance at Worcester Cathedral.

Names will also be published in the Worcester News on Christmas Eve.

Anyone is welcome to dedicate a light in memory or celebration of a loved one, not only those who have a connection with St Richard’s, and money raised from donations will help support the hospice’s specialist care.

St Richard’s Hospice is an independent charity caring for adults with a serious progressive illness, improving their quality of life from diagnosis, during treatment to their last days and supporting those important to them.

You can dedicate a light or confirm your attendance at the cathedral services online at www.strichards.org.uk/lights-of-love or call the Fundraising Team on 01905 958262.
