THE following cases were heard recently at Worcester Magistrates Court.

 

There were sobs of relief in the public gallery as Martin Abbott, 47, was cleared of a sex attack. 

Mr Abbott, of Church Lane, Norton, had always denied the charge of sexual assault on a female, which the prosecution had alleged took place on October 3, 2021.

After a trial magistrates deliberated for more than one-and-a-half hours before chairman of the magistrates bench, Roger Warrington, told Mr Abbott he had been found not guilty.

Tamzon Benson, who had previously been found guilty of six offences of speeding in her absence, appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court for the latest hearing of her case. 

Sentencing was reopened in her case with Benson, 50, admitting five offences of speeding on the A449 last year. 

Benson, of Sheepscombe Drive, Worcester, denies an offence of speeding on Tybridge Street, Worcester, on January 4 this year. 

Magistrates warned her she will be disqualified unless she is able to argue "exceptional hardship" reasons at the next hearing.

Graham Davis, of Bridge Street, Worcester, took just 12 days before ignoring magistrates' warnings and stealing again.

The 40-year-old was given a 12-month conditional discharge on September 1 for stealing and was warned by magistrates any future offending would be punished.

But magistrates heard that on September 12 he had walked into Tesco Express, Foregate Street, stealing five bottles of washing detergent.

Davis was fined by the magistrates.

Ethan Dance, of Blossom Close, Worcester, crashed into a lamppost before refusing to give a breathalyser test. 

Magistrates heard the 19-year-old went to hospital after the crash, and offered to take the drink driving test, but at that point it was too late. 

Dance was disqualified from driving and ordered to do 100 hours of unpaid work.

Bethany Liquorish, of Augusta Drive, Worcester, and formerly of Conway, Worcester, bit a police officer's hand as she tried to calm her down.

The 20-year-old admitted assault by beating of an emergency worker.

Mark Hambling, prosecuting, said Liquorish was in custody when she committed the offence after a night out drinking. 

Liquorish was fined and ordered to pay the police officer compensation.
