HEAVY rain caused sudden flash flooding in and around Worcester this weekend.

A morning of severe rainfall on Sunday, October 23 resulted in lots of water on busy Worcester roads.

Drivers were advised by Worcestershire County Council's Highways and Travel team to stay safe whilst driving in hazardous conditions.

Highways teams were deployed on Sunday morning to visit the worst roads to try and prevent further flooding.

St John's was particularly affected by the flash flooding, with rainwater overflowing onto the pavements on several major roads.

Tybridge Street saw lots of water across all lanes of the carriageway from early on, with initial fears the water would make the road impassable.

Aldi, Mcdonalds and The Range's car parks also show lots of water building up at the entrance.

On Malvern Road, a major pool of water could be seen across the centre of the road, with drivers passing through the water at slow speeds.

Some residents were seen trying to clear drains on the sides of the road in order to prevent further flooding across the road.

Further down the road, at the Lower Wick Roundabout, major flooding could be seen on both sides of the Marks and Spencer petrol station and heading towards the dual carriageways.

West Mercia Police posted a warning on social media about the dangers of driving through flood water.

It said: "Never try to drive through flood water – just 30 cm of water is enough to float your car."

A report from the Met Office shared on Sunday morning said that the rain was set to turn drier in the afternoon.

It said: "A band of locally heavy rain will move north through the morning.

"It will be windy with strong gusts and thunder possible. Turning drier into the afternoon with sunny spells and isolated showers.

"Feeling warm for the time of year. Maximum temperature 18 °C."
