A popular local entrepreneur is organising a get-together for the players of a football team from up to 60 years ago.

Godfrey John Banner (who prefers to be known as John) is organising a get-together for all the lads who played football for Leigh United and Leigh United Old Boys football clubs.

John, whose main claim to fame is that he has put on more different concerts at The Swan Theatre and Huntingdon Hall in Worcester than any other promoter, was secretary of the Leigh football teams from 1962-1982.

They played in the Malvern league and John ran the team mostly by himself.

He said: “I thought, at the age of 80, it would be a good idea to have a reunion - while most of us are still alive, and can still recall the tales to tell.”

The get together is at The Portobello, Bransford Road, St John's Worcester WR2 4EZ on Friday October 28 2022.

It will start at 3pm and there will be food available (chicken in the basket style) at £5 per head.

John has provided us with a complete list of all the players he can think of and appreciates he may have missed one or two and, regrettably, "...there are more than a few of the named who are, sadly, no longer with us,” he added.
