A NEW supermarket in Malvern which will create dozens of jobs in the town is nearing completion.

The new Aldi near Malvern Retail Park is still on-track to open in December, with new staff being hired and major progress being made on the new building.

New photos show the main structure of the new store is close to completion, with builders hard at work to get the rest of the store built.

Work on the supermarket began earlier this year, with Aldi beginning to hire and arrange training for new staff soon after plans were approved by Malvern Hills District Council for the work.

Plans for the new store were approved back in March, with councillors agreeing it would boost the local economy and create jobs in and around the town.

More than 200 supportive comments were submitted to the council by the public welcoming the plans.

Other supporters said it would give shoppers the chance to stay in Malvern rather than travelling to Worcester or Ledbury to buy food.

The plans also included a 120-space car park with electric charging points and cycle parking.

The proposed opening hours are 8am to 10pm between Monday and Saturday and 10am to 5pm on Sunday.

Located next to Malvern Retail Park, its presence means there will be two supermarkets in close proximity, with Morrisons just the other side of Roman Way.

It is hoped 30 new jobs will be created when the store opens in May, with Aldi beginning to hire staff and set up training for them throughout the summer.

Signs were put up in and around the town advertising the new jobs, which included both sales assistants and store managers.

Training for the new roles was scheduled to take place at the Aldi branches in Worcester in Tybridge Street, Pheasant Street and Bath Road.
