PAY-as-you-go car share has been launched in an area of Worcester plagued by problem parking.

Arboretum residents now have access to a Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid vehicle, as part of The Car Club.

Drivers wishing to use the car pay a small monthly fee and can then pre-book the car online or via an app when they need it.

The low-emission car has been provided by Enterprise Car Club and is parked at Worcester Baptist Church on Sansone Walk in the city centre.

Mayor of Worcester, Cllr Adrian Gregson, said: “I’d like to thank Worcester Baptist Church and Enterprise for working together to set up this scheme which, if successful, could be rolled out to other areas of the city too.

"Encouraging car sharing is a key part of our strategy to help cut carbon emissions and improve the environment for all.

"The Car Club is also a great way of providing convenient and flexible transport for those who might not be able to afford a car of their own.”

Once signed up, customers have access to the largest Car Club in the UK, with 1,500 cars and vans located in more than 220 cities, towns and communities, across the country.

The scheme aims to reduce the number of cars on the road and provides an alternative option for residents who can’t afford their own car.

Randall Rickabaugh, head of mobility for Enterprise in the Southwest said: “Car Club is a great alternative to meet changing travel patterns.

"Research shows that 20 per cent of Car Club members joined to make savings from not running their own car, and we know that those with their own vehicle find value in using Car Club for when they need the occasional use of a second vehicle.

“Once someone becomes a member of our car club, they have access to our complete network of vehicles, and this means they can enjoy hassle-free motoring not only in Worcester but also when travelling elsewhere in the UK.”

Enterprise is offering Worcester residents their first year’s annual standard membership for just £10 (usually and thereafter £60 per year) and £10 free driving credit.when you join.
