AN ELDERLY man was left with a head injury after falling into the road forcing police to close it off to traffic.
Staff at nearby businesses on Bath Road rushed to his aid covering him with a blanket after he fell while getting out of a taxi, they said.
Police closed off Bath Road at 3pm today (Friday) for his safety and for paramedics to give him treatment.
He was taken to hospital for further checks.
Staff at J & J Pharmacy said they saw a regular customer, who they believe is in his nineties, get out of a taxi then lose his balance and fall into the road.
Rushing out, they put a blanket around him and held his hand until the ambulance service arrived.
Lynn Limrick, a member of staff at the pharmacy, said: "He is one of our regulars, he would have been getting the taxi here to pick up his prescription.
"We were happy to have been able to rush out and be helpful."

Her pharmacy colleague Julie Robinson said: "He must have lost his balance as he got out of the taxi and he fell on the road right into a really big puddle.
"We got him a big thick blanket and went out and put it around him, the rain was hammering down on him.
"I held his hand and he kept squeezing my hand back which was really touching.
"We know him well and he's a lovely man.
"I'm so glad we were there to help because at the end of the day, that could be anybody's dad or grandad and it was heartwarming to be there for him."
A spokesperson from West Mercia Police said: "Around 3pm today (Friday, October 7) we received a report concerned for the safety of a man on Bath Road, Worcester.
"The road has been closed while we attend with West Midlands Ambulance Service."
Police added the incident involved an elderly man who had sustained a head injury
West Midlands Ambulance Service sent one ambulance to Bath Road.
A spokesperson said: "We were called to a medical case on Bath Road, Worcester at 2.51pm.
"One ambulance attended and treated one man on scene before being conveyed to hospital for further checks."
