A Worcester distillery has left its home in the city - but is hoping to complete a move to an “exciting” new venue soon.

Piston Gin has left the Royal Porcelain Works and has moved production to an industrial unit in Staverton, near Cheltenham.

But fans of Piston’s popular Gin School need not worry - it is also on the verge of finding a new space in Worcester and is planning a host of events.

In a video posted on Facebook, founder Nick Weatherall said: “We’ve left the Royal Porcelain Works in search of more space and our recent rollout in the US and Canada means we need to increase production.

“We’ve moved to an industrial unit just outside Cheltenham, where we can now easily produce upwards of 3,500 bottles a week.

“We have had a minor setback in relocating Gin School. The plan was for this all to be seamless but things haven’t quite aligned. We’re super-close to relocating our flagship store to a central location in Worcester, hopefully before Christmas this year.”

Piston Gin to open bar and host celebrity evenings

Mr Weatherall said he wants to open three Gin Schools by spring 2023 and that events such as cocktail masterclasses and advanced distilling sessions are being lined up.

“Most importantly we are not changing our brand ethos,” he added. “We are still Piston, we’re still a great local team and we’re still pushing hard to make the highest quality products we can.”

General manager Grace Stringer said the company does have a building in Worcester lined up and that it will be a “big, bold move for Piston” but is keeping the details under wraps until all the paperwork is complete. A backup plan is also in place.

“The Gin School has proved so popular and is always fully booked months in advance, but we’ve never been able to have an events space or a bar - the new venue will enable us to do that,” she said.

“We have celebrities and top chefs wanting to get involved so there’ll be opportunities to create some really great nights out in Worcester. It’s really exciting.”
