THE parts of the city that will see hundreds of new homes built in the next two decades have been revealed.
The review of the South Worcestershire Development Plan (SWDP) has finally been made available to the public and includes several additions in Worcester equalling almost 900 new homes.
The key planning document, which has been re-examined by the three south Worcestershire councils, shows where new homes and key infrastructure will be built in the next 20 years.

Studies by the councils concluded that the city currently has space for 3,155 new homes including 866 homes proposed to be built in the revised SWDP across the next 20 years.
This would also be on top of the 2,289 homes included in the old SWDP, some of which have planning permission but have not yet been built, and others that are already under construction.
The biggest plan for Worcester would see almost 500 homes and flats replace some of the industrial units off Navigation Road in Diglis.

The additions to the SWDP in Worcester include plans for 39 homes at the Checketts Lane Industrial Estate off Droitwich Road and up to 75 homes could be built on land at the Woodside Point warehouse off Williamson Road next to Taylor Wimpey’s 200-plus-home estate on the site of the former Metal Box factory.
Land already earmarked for 120 news next to the former University Park site off Bromyard Road has also been included after getting planning permission in 2021 and as many as 60 homes would be built part as part of wider potential regeneration work in Shrub Hill which could eventually see up to 750 homes built including student accommodation and assisted living flats.

Empty warehouses and industrial units in Carden Street off City Walls Road remain an aspiration for up to 120 homes – and has been included again as an ‘opportunity zone’ in the planning document.
The revised SWDP, which sets out how more than 11,000 new homes will be built across the south of the county by 2041, includes plans for a huge new 5,000-home town at Worcestershire Parkway station near Worcester and a massive new 2,000-home town at Throckmorton Airfield near Pershore, and an extra 1,000 new homes in Rushwick.
